Priamine

Priamine is a low-viscous, 100% bio-based, dimer diamine. Pripol is a dimer fatty acid monomer which brings:

  • Flexibility
  • Water barrier properties and
  • Improved adhesion in a variety of applications

Priamine is a 100% bio-renewable carbon-based product. The different grades vary in colour and functionality, all adjusted for the different applications targeted.

Being very versatile, Priamine meets a growing demand for the development of high-performance:

  • Polyamide
  • Epoxy and polyimide adhesives
  • Engineering plastics and
  • Elastomers

Priamine can also be used to formulate chemical and moisture resistant epoxy, polyurea and polyurethane resins and coatings, all applications where durability under severe conditions is of great importance. Applications can be found in offshore, automotive and electronics.

Using Priamine results in longer lifetime because of its excellent protective properties such as:

  • Good chemical and water resistance
  • Reduced brittleness and
  • Improved adhesion to a wide variety of substrates

Why choose a dimer diamine?

Traditional diamines on the market are typically short-chain, very crystalline, and from petrochemical resources. Often to adapt a polyamide formulation to increase flexibility the only option is to modify the composition of the diacid part. Our Priamine improves the options available, allows greater freedom in formulation, and a fine tuning of the final performances.

Sustainability of raw materials is an important factor and  often this requirement is very challenging to meet, especially for high performance products.  Our Priamine is an excellent sustainable choice as it is 100% bio-based, made using sustainably produced vegetable raw materials and delivers on performance.

According to the diamine used in the formulation, Priamine can also be mixed as a modifier, replacing only a portion of the diamine content, improving final performances. Diamines are typically solid, thus requiring additional solvents to keep viscosity within the application limits in for example coatings. With Priamine you can formulate a high solid coating whilst limiting the use of solvent, and therefore achieving a very low VOC product.

The uses of Priamine

Priamine dimer diamine has been developed for use in many different applications and chemistries such as:

Polyamides

Priamine provides polyamides with flexibility, reduced melt viscosity for enhanced mould flow and improved adhesion. The low moisture absorption reduces strength variations and brings improved dimensional stability. Priamine can also be built in as a tough, segmented block-copolymer. Using it in this way means that the rigidity (high Tg) of the hard matrix can be maintained. For this application, a highly difunctional grade is available: Priamine 1074.

Epoxy

We offer Priamine 1071 as curative for epoxy systems in marine and protective coating applications. This product has high functionality to bring the required benefits for demanding coating systems, also in combination with other commercial curing agents. Priamine enables formulators to combine hardness and flexibility; with its low viscosity, can be used in systems with far less solvent or even solvent-free.

The hydrophobic nature and chemical structure of Priamine enhances water repellency performance, contributing to an excellent corrosion protection and early water resistance.
Improving flexibility is now possible with little effect on coating’s hardness, which in turn absorbs stress of e.g. thermal expansion of the substrate.

Polyurethanes

Modifying polyurethanes with Priamine offers formulation possibility to introduce urea sections combined with flexibility. It also offers water resistance and improved adhesion. For this we suggest Priamine 1073.

Polyimides

We developed a specific high purity, high di-functionality and low colour Priamine for use in high performance polyimides, Priamine 1075. This low viscosity material allows producers to reduce the use of expensive solvents during processing. Furthermore, Priamine is a 100% sustainable solution with an extremely low colour that allows for transparent polyimide applications. Our Priamine 1075 also offers intrinsic self-healing properties at room temperature with full recovery from cutting, breaking or scratching.
