As a speciality polymer additives company, achieving tailored slip performance via the optimisation of product combinations has become one of our technical strengths, and is an exciting area of development for the polymer additives team. How do Crodamide additives work?

Crodamide speciality additives are incorporated directly into the polymer during the extrusion process. Products can be added directly to the polymer at the processing stage, pre-compounded or included via masterbatch. They work by migrating to the surface as the polymer cools forming a solid lubricating layer at the surface. This acts to lower the friction or adhesion between contacting polymer surfaces and the polymer and other materials.

What makes Crodamide different to other amides?

Security of supply

The Crodamide range is manufactured at three independent manufacturing sites to ensure maximum security of supply. These manufacturing sites are based in the UK, Netherlands and China. This ensures we can supply product to customer where and when they need it.

We are doubling the capacity of our flagship Crodamide manufacturing site in Hull, United Kingdom, to meet the growing demand of our customers. This £27million investment is the second biggest in our company history and ensures we can continue to offer faultless supply of amides when our customers need it. It will enable improved consistency or product and ensure no variation in application use. More space on the plant will mean more space to deliver new and innovative products that answer the unmet needs of our customers.

Local warehousing allows us to keep stock close to customers and reduce lead times, while back integration of raw materials ensures a consistent and reliable supply chain.

Sustainably sourced and manufactured

The Crodamide range is manufacturied using 100% renewable carbon.  Our crops are grown exclusively for industrial uses, ensuring not only security of supply but robust and sustainable raw materials, that do not complete with food crops. We have long-standing commercial relationships with growers meaning we are able to optimise and utilise our own seed lineage to develop preferential crop characteristics, build in consistency of crop and maximise yield and minimise agricultural land utilisation. For example, over the last 10 years we have increased our crop yield by 26% reducing our reliance on land and allowing more food crops to be grown.   

Sustainable transport options are used where possible to reduce carbon emissions. For example, at our Hull site raw materials are transported by barge, displacing approximately 1000 trips by road tanker. Our on-site wind turbine contributes to our 100% green energy use and reduces our carbon emissions by 2000 tonnes per year.

We are world leaders in surface science and the application of additives into plastics, with over 30 years experience delivering first class technical support to our customers. Our global R&D teams have a long history of collaborating with customers to develop new solutions and innovations. Our knowledge of processes and additives ensure the most optimised solution and processing conditions are recommended. We have the ability to perform testing on behalf of customers in our state-of-the-art laboratories to help relieve the burden of approval and make NPD more efficient.

A bio-based refined steramide in bead form that provides anti-blocking performance to polyolefins and rubber at low temperatures.

A secondary bis amide providing a medium slip and anti-block effect in polyolefin polar copolymers. It is particularly useful as an anti-tack additive in EVA pellets and hotmelt adhesives.
